'The Love Heart’ Series

Every ‘Love Sidmouth’ piece is totally unique and embellished by kirsten using paints and coloured pencil. Pieces are created to order, please get in touch for prices and to chat about your preferred size and framing options.

This series captures the passion and happiness a particular place can evoke. Inspired by amulets and milagros (ancient symbols of love and protection) the heart symbols reference local places, landmarks, discovered details and histories. The expressive brushstrokes are inspired by map references and symbols, as if taking a journey around the town and local area.

Fragments of music scores, architectural elements, patterns, historical information, recipes, ancient script and maps are often included to tell the story of a place. The love heart series illustrate the passion we all hold for places, travel, nature... the list is endless!

Pieces are also available from Azure Gallery in Sidmouth

‘Love Sidmouth ’

This piece captures the essence of spectacular Sidmouth. Bold motifs and bright colours inspired by a walk around the area evoke the history, landscape and passions that flow throughout this wonderful town. The sea is heart of the town so the blue tones are central to the palette along with the yellow sunshine, colours of the shingle and heritage paint colours from local buildings.

Ink sketches of well known places include Powderham Castle, Sidbury Manor, Jacobs Ladder and Conaught Gardens, Church of St Giles and Kennaway House.. plus views of Sidmouth beach and the beach huts. Did you spot the Manor Pavilion Theatre and Norman Lockyer Observatory? Views of Sidmouth Harbour and Royal Glen hotels are included as well as signs for pubs including The Balfour Arms, The Old Ship Inn, Radway Inn, The Swan, The Black Horse, The Anchor Inn as well as The Blue Ball from further afield. Local innovative businesses illustrated include the wonderful Azure Gallery and The Donkey Sanctuary. Antique maps show Sidmouth street views, local villages and popular day trips. Pastel coloured hearts tell the history of the town with some delightful references from time past.

Flowers and herbs seen in summer are shown, include lavender, sage, rosemary, sunflower, cosmos, bird of paradise,

daffodil and tulip as well as the beautiful hanging baskets spotted around the town in summer.

A deckchair and the town crest are depicted along with shellfish and a shoal of fish. Studies nod to favourite pastimes cycling, walking, tennis, sea angling and the microphone hints at regular live music events. Favourite foods include ice-cream, hot chocolate and a huge slice of cake. Secret stories are hidden along with favourite summer accessories snorkel, bucket and spade and there is an RNLI lifeboat as well as fossils and a host of mermaids.

Of course the piece wouldn’t be complete without a seagull and a Union Jack (or two..) for good measure!
