Party Shoes ( Wild Flowers) No. 3

Kirsten has created shoe paintings throughout her life. The idea originally came from the story of the 12 dancing princesses who wore their shoes out dancing after midnight every evening. The shoes depicted are from designer shops, markets, charity shops or borrowed from friends. They are universal, diverse and very desirable! Whatever the shoes or the purpose, our shoes carry us through life and the story continues…

Party Shoes ( Wild Flowers)

A series of shoe pieces originally inspired by festivals and music events, parties and places where splendid shoes are perfect for the moment! Each piece is painted using music score and the shoe image is a decadent pair of shoes, an optimistic statement of drama and fun, with a musical and cultural backdrop.

Fragments of collaged papers tell ‘the story’ of the shoes.. referencing a theme or a colour (each is different) these include images of ‘wild flowers’ , stamps and fragments of maps. Also included are advertisements from vintage fashion magazines such as Vogue and Harpers and Queen. These include adverts for women’s garments as well as fashion brands from all over the world. Several of the pieces use real gold leaf and all pieces are individually created using washes of acrylic paints, gesso, oil pastel and mixed media.

Party Shoes are glamorous, smart and unusual. The detailing is hand finished and they were always destined to be celebrated for their design! Sketched and painted over music scores and fragments about wild flowers, places and ingredients of a good night out over the centuries.

These pieces celebrate ‘wild at heart’ girls and ladies and the wild nature that surrounds us. The social butterflies are referenced in that every pair has a butterfly collaged somewhere as well as a music score for a song about love. The pretty flower print overlaid in bright gold suggests light and life, decadence and sparkle, a complementary colour to the turquoise backdrop. These shoes were all owned by famous ( or soon to be famous) women, one pair is Marie Antoinette’s wedding shoes.

Sending love to all the wild flowers having parties in gardens, fields and on beaches and celebrating inappropriate footwear.. keep up the good work! 🤍

Also available as a gold embellished limited edition of 12, one for every hour in the day ( let the party go on!) Kirsten creates shoe portraits for individuals, if you have a pair of shoes that really should be immortalised, do get in touch!
