‘’In the Pink’

Part of the Butterfly series, this piece is centred around the phrase ‘In the Pink’. Optimistic, joyful and just a bit about wild abandon.. the piece uses collaged music from the pink panther, pink floyd and Madam butterfly. Text in the background includes jewellery, dictionary definitions and hallmarks.. details on a scale that reflect the precious animal that inspired the piece.

Nature’s varirty and fragility is at the heart of the piece. References to time hint at the transience of a butterfly’s life. The exquisite detail is layered beneath gold leaf surrounding the butterflies which are clearly the star of the show and require no additional decoration.

Each butterfly is based on a real species. We can’t improve on nature but we can exist alongside it and make sure our environment allows for both to survive.
